This past week, everyone has been talking about the minimum wage increase, but there is something no one ever thinks about... Quite frankly,
the minimum wage hike is a purely political ploy & a hidden way to raise taxes and make more money.
Think about this: When the minimum wage goes up, so do all the other prices!! It may not be immediately noticeable, but take Wal-Mart as an example: If they raise minimum wage, they will raise the rest of their prices. So when their employees buy from them, the raised wage makes no difference due to the rising prices. If their prices don’t go up, certainly the number of individuals they hire will go down, and that doesn’t do anyone any good either.
So why do the Democrats always push for minimum wage?
1) They get
votes because they have managed to snow all those people into thinking they actually care.
2) The income tax goes up, so
the government has more money to play with. They get more taxes from the worker, more taxes from the employer who has to match their employees taxes, and more sales tax from the increased prices!!!
Once all this happens, our
dollar continues to inflate and lose its value in the world market, putting us at a disadvantage... not just in trade, but also for those regular Americans who get the chance to travel outside our borders. Their money just doesn’t go as far.
How did the American people survive 25, 50, or 100 years ago when the average wage was so much less? The price of goods was less!!! It's the same difference in our spending if we get 30 cents an hour but milk only costs 6 cents per can as it is if we get $5.15 an hour but milk costs $4 per gallon.
It boggles my mind to think that the American public is too short-sighted to see this!!!
So if minimum wage increases are not the answer, what is? I think that best answer to this is to find some way to
make the American worker more valuable. We already have free public schools, but we need to go a step beyond the obligatory high school. If a person doesn't think college is the right thing for them, there should be trade schools available at an affordable cost (or with scholarships that are need based). I’m sure if we are creative, there are other possibilities we could come up with.
But beyond providing schooling,
every person has to want something more badly enough to WORK for it. I know that work is a dirty word to many people, but frankly, self-development requires a commitment on the part of the individual. No amount of schooling or teaching will help if the individual does not take advantage of it!!! If an individual applies for a job, the first things that get an application and resume thrown out without being looked at are a badly formatted resume, a lack of proper grammar, and a lack of math skills. These (and more) are essential skills every American should learn, regardless of background. It is through an increased skill set that Americans will earn higher salaries, not through the false economies created by politicians.
So there you have it. This is my opinion, take it or leave it as you will.
